A first-class triple jump

In the men's triple jump event, the best jumpers in the world will compete against each other. World Indoor Tour Gold Madrid 2025, which will be held in Gallur on February 28, a world-class event that brings together the best athletes on the planet and promises to give us unforgettable moments.

In this case, the triple jump event will not count towards the World Indoor Tour final (the women's triple jump will), but that does not prevent some of the best specialists in the world in this discipline from seeking great records in Madrid, with their sights set on the World Indoor Championships to be held in Nanjing at the end of March.

The main duel: Zango vs. Martinez

The eyes of the public will undoubtedly be on the eagerly awaited showdown between the reigning world indoor champion and the man who has jumped the most in indoor history, Hugues Fabrice Zango (Burkina Faso), y Lazaro Martinez (Cuba), two of the most important triple jumpers in the discipline in recent years.

Zango, with his impressive record, is the only athlete entered to have broken the 18-metre barrier, with a mark of 18.07m achieved in 2021 that was once a world record indoors under the previous WA regulations. He is also a world champion both indoors (Glasgow 2024) and outdoors (Budapest 2023), as well as a bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and a fifth place at Paris 2024. His dominance in the discipline and his proven ability to achieve historic marks place him as the main athlete to watch. He will jump again in Gallur five years after he achieved a best jump of 2020 m in 17.37.

For his part, Lázaro Martínez will be Zango's great rival. The Cuban, vice-champion in the world championship in Budapest 2023 behind Zango, was world indoor champion in Belgrade 2022 where he jumped his personal best indoors (17.64 m) and an Olympic finalist, both in Rio 2016 and in Paris 2024, where he reached eighth place in both editions. His record also includes an Ibero-American title achieved in 2022 in La Nucía and last year we were able to see him in action on Spanish soil at the Guadalajara meeting where he jumped 17.39 m in windy conditions. The rivalry between the two promises to offer one of the most exciting duels of the season.

The full podium for Glasgow 2024

El World Indoor Tour Gold Madrid 2025, will also feature the presence of other prominent names who were part of the podium at the Glasgow 2024 Indoor World Championships. The vice-champion, the Algerian Mohammed Yasser Triki (17.43 m) will be another big name. Triki also shone at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Budapest 2023 World Championships, where he finished in fifth position, underlining his consistency at major championships.

Next to him, the Portuguese James Pereira (17.11 m), who won the bronze medal at Glasgow 2024. Another French jumper to watch will be Thomas Gogois (17.38 m), who won the bronze medal at the 2024 European Championships in Rome ahead of Pereira, who finished in fourth place.

The event will therefore bring together some of the world's greatest triple jumpers, all with personal bests above 17 metres, guaranteeing a competition full of spectacle.
