HISTORY OF THE GALLUR MUNICIPAL SPORTS CENTER
La Gallur indoor track It was inaugurated on 26 February 2016 on the occasion of the International Indoor Athletics Meeting – Villa de Madrid, a competition that opened the doors to this magnificent athletics facility that the capital of Spain so desperately needed since 2005, when the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid was an exceptional witness to the European Indoor Championships, a long-standing memory for fans.
Since that first edition, eight international meetings have been held at this new facility. 2025 will be the seventh consecutive time that this indoor meeting is part of the World Athletics World Indoor Tour, a seal of quality that guarantees the high level of this event. This season's world tour is made up of nine Gold category meetings: 25 January Astana (GR), 29 January Belgrade (SER), 2 February Boston (USA), 4 February Ostrava (CHE), 7 February Karlsruhe (AL), 8 February New York (USA), 13 February Lievin (FR), 16 February Torun (POL) and will close, as in recent years, on XNUMX February World Indoor Tour Madrid the next February 28.

Also, in addition to hosting the final of the World Indoor Tour final on five occasions, and hosting this meeting since 2016, Gallur has also hosted other important events since its inauguration. The first major national competition to take place in this indoor arena was the 2016 Spanish National Championships, a Championship that was also held on the Madrid short track in 2021 and 2023. Other national championships held have been the under-23 and master championships in 2017, and the under-20 championship in 2019. On the international side, this Madrid venue has hosted numerous international meetings of different categories, but the greatest milestone so far has been the organisation of the European Master Championship, which took place in Madrid from 19 to 24 March 2018. A complete success in terms of participation, organisation and results, which further reinforced the fact that it is considered one of the best tracks in the world to compete on.
